The Vancouver School Board provides public school education for children living in the city of Vancouver, Canada. It is one of the largest school districts in western Canada. There are 18 secondary schools, 92 Elementary schools and 2 adult education centers enrolling approximately 56,000 students in the Vancouver school district.
Credentials earned in the Vancouver school district are recognized worldwide. Students who successfully complete the requirements for Grade 12 graduation have the necessary qualifications to apply to most universities worldwide.
There are 18 secondary schools (grades 8 to 12), enrolling approximately 26,000 secondary students. In Vancouver schools, the academic year begins in early September and ends in late June. All schools in the Vancouver public education system are co‐educational and no school uniforms are required. Each school has a library, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a school nurse, and counselors to assist all students in course planning and study skills. There are many extra‐curricular activities including photography, sports, drama, concerts, skiing and community service.
