Philosophy

Harrogate Ladies’ College was founded in 1893 as an all-girl school with an extensive history in academic excellence, sports, music and the arts. In 2010, the school was ranked the best of all of the school sin England for A-Level. Currently, there are 340 students enrolled from 20 different countries around the world. More than half of the student in Year 7 to Year 13 stays at hostels. Year 13 students stay at a more independent hostel called the Tower House which has a large relaxation area and modern kitchen and private bedrooms for each student. Each villa would also have a teacher and an assistant who heads the living quarters and closely overseas the well-being of the students. There are also 4 nurses permanently stationed to care for students’ health.

Curriculum and Qualifications

There are currently 22 GCSE subjects offered and 28 A-Level subjects. The school was awarded in 2012 in recognition for its excellence in the School of Accounting, Economics and Psychology. For every subject, the school has facilities to support students’ learning such as a design and technology room, science labs, music rooms, sport centers and a swimming pool.

The school is located in Harrogate and covers nearly 70 acres of land. Students could easily travel to the school by train or car. Manchester Airport is about 90 minutes away and London is less than 3 hours away by train. Moira House was established in 1875 as a girls-only school. Students who are not able to travel to school and back daily have the option to stay at the schools dorms. Moira House accepts application from students between 2 to 18 years old for admission into preschool all the way to Year 13. Curriculum and Qualifications

GCSE courses are taken in Years 10 and 11. English, English Literature, Maths, Science (Single Science or separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics), French and Religious Studies (short course) are core subjects and girls select their remaining optional subjects from those on offer, giving a total of 9 or 10 subjects.

Adcote School for Girls teaches many different subjects and fields. Besides GCSE, the school also offers IGCSE and various extracurricular activities for students to participate in such as Art, Design, Textiles and Sports. Most students in the Sixth Form study 4 subjects in the AS Level (first year of the A-Level course) and then go on to choose 3 subjects for A2 (last year of the A-Level course).

 

Academic Achievement

At Adcote School for Girls, we take pride in our outstanding results as well as the quality of the experience our pupils get as a result of studying at a truly traditional and unique British Boarding School. This year, almost 90% of Adcote pupils have achieved the equivalent of at least 5 passes at grades A*-C in their GCSE and iGCSE results.  Overall, 64% of all grades awarded at A2 or their equivalent were at the top awards possible, A* or A, with 85% of all grades awarded at A*-C.
