Intensive English/ ELS Support
Years 7-9
Pupils may be withdrawn from some other classes to have specialist English lessons. These will focus on access to the curriculum and helping with language problems in other subjects.
Years 10-11
There is the possibility of specialist English lessons instead of taking a modern foreign language. These will take place in small groups with the focus on the academic vocabulary needed in all school subjects. Pupils can also work towards the Cambridge Main Suite Exams (University of Cambridge ESOL or IGCSE English as a Second Language). However, wherever possible, pupils are encouraged to take another foreign language. If English support is needed, this will then be arranged on a one-to-one basis, which will mean withdrawing the pupil from other lessons.
Years 12-13
Pupils will have timetabled specialist English lessons alongside their A Level subjects. These will help with their chosen subjects and, if required, help to work towards an IELTS qualification which is needed for entry to university in the UK.
