Bachelor’s Degree

Undergraduate courses are an essential part to a student’s academic career. An undergraduate career will last between 3-6 years and in some institutions, even longer.  Successfully completing an undergraduate career will help prepare students into stepping into the professional job landscape in the future. In Australia, Entrance Examinations are not required by universities. To apply for university, students must present their transcript, scores and overall equivalent qualifications in order to be accepted into the university.

In the case of international students, the university may require additional requirements such as:

  • Students must have successfully completed Grade 12 with a minimum GPA of 2.6 (or in some cases, 3.0) in order to be considered for enrolment.
  • IELTS results must be 6.5 or higher, depending on the university and its disciplines.
  • If the GPA is below the minimum requirement, students are recommended to enrol into the Foundation Programme for the duration of one year before transitioning to a First Year undergraduate in university.

Bachelor Honour’s Degree 

Students can pursue a Bachelor Honours Degree after completing a Bachelor’s Degree with outstanding grades and performance. The Bachelor Honours Degree will take students 4 – 7 years to complete. During this time, students must vigilantly attend lectures and provide a thesis or dissertation. If students are able to achieve outstanding scores and excellent academic performance during their Bachelor Honours Degree, students will be able to be admitted and pursue a Doctoral Degree immediately, skipping Master’s Degree altogether.

Admission Criteria for Bachelor Honour’s Degrees

  • Graduated from high school with outstanding grades and performance.
  • IELTS results of 6.5 or higher

Graduate Certificate/Postgraduate Certificate

The course enables students to gain qualifications in their field of study or overall increase their knowledge and understanding about the subject. Students are required to attend classes full-time for a period of 6 months.

Admission Criteria for Graduate Certificate/Postgraduate Certificate

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Work experience
  • IELTS result 6.5 or higher

For students who do not have any work experience and would like to study at a Postgraduate level or lack certain university requirements, the university will consider conditional admission. The university will allow the student to study on a Graduate Certificate level for 6 months. Once the student has successfully completed the courses with a passing score, the student can continue their studies to earn their Graduate Diploma or Master’s Degree for another six months to a year, depending on the curriculum.

Master’s Degree

This course is dedicated to increasing the student’s knowledge in their field of study beyond their Bachelor’s Degree and Bachelor’s Honours Degrees. The duration of the programme is 1 – 2 years and students can choose to attend postgraduate classes, perform research or do both.

  • IELTS results 6.5 or higher

In order to enrol for a Master’s Degree, the university may require the student to enrol for a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or a preparatory programme for Masters called “Qualifying Programme” or “Preliminary Programme”. This is to determine whether or not the student is qualified to pursue their Masters on a postgraduate level.

Doctoral Degree 

The Doctoral Degree or commonly referred to as Ph.D is the highest and most distinguished level of educated offered at the university. Students pursuing Ph.D degrees are required to have a basic foundation in researching and writing a thesis beforehand. Some universities require students to undertake additional intensive classes to perform coursework as a part of their Ph.D degree.

The semester runs from February to November and is divided into two semesters. It is advisable for new students to travel to Australia 2 – 3 weeks prior to the school’s opening to familiarise with the school and its environment. Also, during this time, most universities will provide orientation for new students that include campus tours as well as answering questions the students may have.
